The staff and pupils at Pencoed Primary believe there is a real need to change the way we live to protect the environment.
Our vision includes a whole school approach to create a sustainable action plan. We aim to enhance awareness and involvement in all aspects of sustainability. The children are the driving force behind all our environmental work and have been so for the past 12 years when our first Eco Committee was started.
Our Eco Committee pupil members are drawn from Years 2 to 6. Each representative is chosen by his or her class or year group via a nomination/election process.
The committee meets once a week to discuss progress with Eco projects. Minutes are kept of all meetings. The minutes of meetings are displayed in the School. Pupils have used School assemblies, the School's notice board, poster campaigns and displays to raise awareness of Eco activities.
Our pupils leave our school with enthusiasm and awareness to continue to promote environmental activities. We are very proud of our commitment to the environment and to have been awarded the Platinum Eco Award.
