I am John McCarthy, Chair of Governors. My wife, Judy and I moved to Pencoed as newlyweds 41 years ago, since when we have brought up two children, Marianne and David, and we have two grandsons, Ethan and Rhydian.
I serve the Community as an elected member of Bridgend Borough Council and Pencoed Town Council, and am also a trustee of the Pencoed Miners’ Welfare Hall, and an LEA governor at Croesty School.
I am a director of Bridgend Lifesavers Credit Union, helping to run the collection point in Pencoed. As an active member of St David’s Church I have taken part in the building of two houses in townships in Cape Town, South Africa. I am proud to support Bridgend Food Bank through the Church.
Judy and I are members of the Rotary Club of Bridgend, raising funds for local charities, and were lucky enough to be part of the End Polio Now campaign in India, taking part two years running in providing polio immunisations to children in towns and villages around Delhi.
I recently retired from the Power Industry after 38 years of service, and now have time and energy to devote to serving our community.
