  • Year 5 Road Safety Quiz Team

    Thu 27 Mar 2014

Congratulations to our Year 5 Road Safety Quiz Team who were very successful in their round of the competition on Tuesday, 25th March.  They competed against eight other schools and after being in the lead all the way through, they were narrowly beaten in the final round, which meant that they came a very close second place.  They will now compete in the Grand Final on 29th, April.  Well done to the team: David Sheldon, Sara Job, Millie Andrews and Cerys Woods and good luck for the final!

  • A visit from Leo the Guide Dog.

    Mon 24 Mar 2014

Year two had a visit from the Guide Dogs Association this afternoon to support the topic work they are covering in class about animals. The children learnt all about the role of the guide dogs and how they are specially trained to lead blind and visually impaired people around obstacles.

  • St David's Day

    Thu 13 Mar 2014

On Thursday 6th March, all of the children participated in St David’s day celebrations. The day started with an Eisteddfod for Key Stage 2 where each class took to the stage to perform. We also had children showcasing their musical talents, playing a variety of instruments. It was a fantastic concert, which ended after we all sang the National Anthem.

In the afternoon the Foundation Phase children took to the stage, where each class had learnt a song. Year 2 told the story of Dewi Sant, the patron saint of Wales.

At the Heol Y Cyw site, the children also performed, with refreshments on offer as well. Mrs John had cooked up a very tasty traditional Welsh cawl.

Well done to all of the children who performed so well. Everybody looked fantastic in their costumes and rugby shirts and many thanks to all the staff who worked so hard to arrange the concerts.

  • Sports Relief

Sat 01 Mar 2014 Ms Sarjeant

Pencoed Primary School will be supporting ‘Sports Relief’ this year!

On the 20th & 21st March we will be taking part in a ‘Bikeathon’ organised by staff in Pencoed.  The challenge is to cycle from Pencoed to London in one and a half days.  This will be done using static exercise bikes in the main hall.  All key stage 2 pupils and staff will get the opportunity to cycle the miles during allocated slots in the school day.  As well as the cycling there will be opportunities to take part in a number of ‘Sports Relief’ activities which will make these days really enjoyable.  This will include making healthy ‘Fair Trade’ fruit smoothies using pedal power generated from a bike.

We would like to raise as much money as possible for ‘Sports Relief’ and would kindly ask you to donate £1 towards this worthwhile cause.   We hope that every penny raised will help disadvantaged people in the UK and around the world.  For more information please visit the Sports Relief website www.sportrelief.com/whatwedo.  We would also encourage pupils to wear something red to coincide with the ‘Sport Relief’ theme.

We would be grateful if all money could be brought into school by Friday 14th March, as a group of Teachers from Bridgend will cycle around every Primary School in Bridgend including Pencoed, to collect the final total we have raised.  Thank you for your continued support.
