Members of the Drama Club and teachers from the comprehensive school came to visit to run an exciting fun workshop with Year 6, where they were taught a song and routine from the musical "Back to the 80s". Year 6 were supported by pupils from Pencoed Comprehensive School as part of the "Moving On Up" transition programme.
The "Moving On Up" concert is part of a transition project at Pencoed that aims to improve primary pupils' and their parents' familiarity with the school, layout and atmosphere. This bridge will also ensure that effective support is in place ensuring that the pupils themselves are seen as active participants in the transition process and in their own learning.
The project has included Secondary pupils being chosen as "Transition Buddies" to work with Year 6 pupils in workshops. the main event will be celebratory transition concert that will take place on March 22nd 2016. Year 6 will be invited to participate in the concert and will perform alongside secondary school pupils. In addition to performing the routine and song which they have been been taught in the workshop, each school will also be invited to perform solo, duets and group pieces that showcase their talent. The concert will celebrate the talent of the young people of Pencoed and the surrounding clusters.
Our Year 6 pupils absolutely loved the workshop and many pupils have declared their interest in taking part in the show. Below are some pictures of the workshop this morning: -
Pencoed Primary is Green!
The National Categorisation System helps identify those schools in Wales in need of the most support. Under this system, schools are assessed on both their performance and their ability to improve.
All schools in Wales have be allocated one of four colours with green representing the top performing schools, yellow for good schools, amber for schools in need of improvement and red for schools in need of the most improvement.
We are delighted to announce that we have been judged to be a Green School for 2015/6. This is the highest rating and means that we have been judged to be;

As a school in Wales, Pencoed Primary is required by law to review and publish its Strategic Equality Plan (SEP). The purpose of the plan is to show the steps we plan to take to make Pencoed Primary a fairer place.
In our plan we have to include a series of equality objectives (some of the things that we plan to do) to show how we intend to promote equal opportunities for all and make a real difference to the lives of pupils, parents, school staff and governors in Pencoed Primary.
In order to help us review and formulate our plan please would you complete the attached questionnaire and return it to school by Monday 22nd February. We will take into account the things that you tell us are important to you in terms of equality and fairness, and this will help us to develop our equality objectives.
Please click on the consultation document to read our current objectives and make comment.
Please contact the school office if you need any further information.

Well done everybody!!!!
This week Jacky from Sainsburys, Bridgend came to school to present us with a set of 40 story books. We were one of the lucky schools selected. The story books are now going to be used for 'Guided Reading' sessions with our pupils. Many thanks to Sainsbury for their kind gesture.

The eCadets have been very busy completing challenge number 2 and a bonus challenge.
CHALLENGE 2
The aim of challenge 2 was to develop the children's understanding of posting photos online and how to do this safely and securely.
The main points that the eCadets highlighted were:
- always get permission from anybody in the photograph
- ensure no personal details are on display
- think if the photo will upset somebody
- ensure that your profile is private (this means only your friends will be able to view the photo)
BONUS CHALLENGE
The aim of the bonus challenge was to inform parents and the community about how to shop safely online. The eCadets crated a leaflet with some tips on what you can do to help protect yourself. The information has been shared on the school website, twitter, schoop and the leaflet was also placed in Pencoed library.
The main points highlighted were:
- only secure websites (url begins with https:// or a locked padlock)
- buy from reliable websites
- use credit cards for purchases over £100 as you have additional protection
- only share personal details when essential
Please visit the eCadet section of the website to see more of the work that the eCadets have created. (under the subheading 'Children' on the homepage)

PENCOED PUPILS

Pencoed Primary School has won the Royal Forestry Society Gold award and secured funding from estate agents Payton Jewell Caines for its unique Forest School programme.
Introduced in 2013, the five week Forest School Programme focuses on developing self-esteem and confidence. Children and their parents or family members take part in team building activities including learning how to build campfires and cooking. It is run by Forest School Leader Faye Williams.
Family Engagement Officer Julie Jenkins said: “Extensive research has shown that having parents and family members engaged with school life results in higher academic success and raises children’s self esteem and confidence.”
“Family engagement has become part of school life and we now run the programme on Saturday mornings to allow working families to attend. We are delighted that Payton Jewell Caines has so kindly supported this wonderful initiative which now means that we’ll be able to deliver more sessions for the children of Pencoed.”
Jade Robbins of Payton Jewell Caines added: “We have been really impressed by the positive approach in the school and the work that is done to encourage children to fulfil their potential.”
